PRESS: Ministry agrees to delay raising data storage for year

MOSCOW, Apr 27 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Digital Development Ministry has partially met pleas of connection operators to postpone expansion of storage facilities by a year in its suggestions to support the industry of IT and connection, which were submitted to the government, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday.

In the document presented by the ministry to the government on April 23, the authority suggested postponing raising storage facilities by 15% annually, one of the clauses of the costly data retention law, for a year.

The ministry also offered to exclude from assessment of capacities video traffic, whose consumption has jumped amid the coronavirus quarantine.

The major domestic operators weighed spending on fulfilment of the data retention law at 40–50 billion rubles over five years per each.

Connection operators hope such measures of support would be adopted.
